Is Fiverr Legit? Or Is it a Scam Website?

There are a lot of legit and scam websites online that it is literally very hard to distinguish between the two.

Websites that have some kind of online money transactions are the ones that we are quite skeptical about.

Questions like – is this site legit? is it safe? what if I lose my money? etc are some questions that we all have.

So, is Fiverr Legit?

Yes, Fiverr is a legit website and it is safe to order from hundreds and thousands of legit freelancers on their website. However, there are some things that you would need to look out for when you order from a freelancer. Things like the freelancer’s experience, quality of work, etc are all a big question mark.

Please Read – Lately, I came to know that Fiverr was an Israeli-based company. I am completely against Israel and anything that funds them. Since I rank on Google for this post, I thought it would be better to let people know this instead of just deleting this post. That way, I may be able to convince at least 1 or 2 to stay away from this platform. I used to promote them in the past (as an affiliate) and now I have stopped it completely. Try using other platforms like Upwork or Toptal but please try to stay away from Fiverr. #FreePalastine

What is Fiverr?

The number of freelancers has grown in huge numbers in the past few years. Unemployment, hating 9-5, are some of the reasons for this huge jump.

However, it’s really hard for an individual freelancer to succeed on their own. And that’s where Fiverr comes in.

Fiverr is a freelance marketplace where people can register themselves as a freelancer and then get paid when someone orders their services from them.

Can freelancers on Fiverr be trusted?

The answer is yes and no.

Like every other thing, there are good people as well as bad ones.

Some freelancers on Fiverr seem to claim a lot in their gig description. For example, have a look at the below gig. He claims that you can make $100-$200 per day and he’s selling it for $10. Haha! What a scam!

If you can make $100-$200 per day, why sell that trick for just $10. Sounds fishy, right?

But this is not the case with every freelancer on Fiverr. There are legit people there on the platform.

I have personally hired a lot of freelancers on Fiverr and almost all of them turned out to be great!

A large part of scam people on Fiverr normally resides in the make money categories. So, when you order a gig from there, just make sure that the claims that they describe are true by asking for some proof or something.

4 Reasons why you should hire freelancers on Fiverr

Affordable

Yeah! Most of the freelancers on Fiverr are available at an extremely affordable price. You can’t get that anywhere on the internet.

The prices range from as low as $5 to more than $10000. But, you can hire great freelancers in the range of $50 – $100 depending on what you want them to do.

If you are lucky and can find some quality freelancers, you probably can get a work done for $10-$20 where the industry-standard rate is above $100.

Reviews

The reviews on Fiverr are one of the main things to look out for when you hire a freelancer. It shows how experienced and good a person is.

Since reviews are a big factor, the freelancers tend to do their best to receive a full 5/5 rating from their buyers because they know that anything below 4 can harm their profile in a drastic way.

But, there are 2 problems which I’ll discuss in the next section.

Customer Support

Fiverr has a really good support team. They will listen to your queries and problems.

If ever you were scammed on Fiverr. They will be there to help you out. Since the money goes through Fiverr’s account, you won’t lose any of it if you provide a valid proof.

Buyer Experiences

Generally, the experience with most buyers including myself isn’t pretty bad. If you can find a good freelancer with a good amount of reviews, you won’t necessarily have any problems.

2 Reasons why Fiverr isn’t the best option

Quality of Work

The quality of work can’t be guaranteed. This is mainly because Fiverr accepts any person on to their platforms. They do not have a screening process of any kind.

So, even if you do not have any type of skills, you could register as a freelancer on their platform. This is one of the main problems I have seen on Fiverr which cannot be seen on any other platforms like Upwork.

But, this doesn’t mean that all the freelancers on the platform are bad. It’s just that there are some sour grapes in the vineyard.

Reviews

Reviews on Fiverr can’t be fully trusted. There are mainly 2 reasons for that.

One, New freelancers on Fiverr tend to add fake reviews which they can ask from their relatives or hire people to do it for them. This is done in order to increase their chances of getting more orders by ranking higher on Fiverr.

Two, If a buyer doesn’t like a certain service offered by a freelancer, they have an option to mutually cancel the order. When this happens, the buyer no longer has the right to review his service. Some freelancers tend to use this to their advantage. When a buyer is unhappy, they tend to cancel their order because of the risk of getting negative reviews.

How to look for legit freelancers on Fiverr?

Finding good and reliable freelancers on Fiverr isn’t a problem. Here are some of the things that I do in order to find legit freelancers.

1. Contact them

This is one of the best ways to find if a freelancer is legit or not. You can ask them about their previous works or samples.

Also, do note how their language and attitude is towards you. Because, if these two things aren’t there, you will have a hard time conversing with this person.

2. Reviews

If you do see a majority of reviews with good ratings, chances are that the person would be a good freelancer. But, it would be better if these reviews did contain any specific details rather than just “Amazing work” or “Good freelancer” type reviews.

3. Gig Description

The gig description is where a freelancer’s first impression lies. So, make sure you read through the description entirely. And see if they do not have the following.

  • False claims – some freelancers tend to put in false claims to get in more orders. But, please do not fall for them.
  • Extensive grammar mistakes – I tend to avoid people whose gig description contains an extensive amount of grammar mistakes especially if I am ordering a service that involves any form of writing.

I would probably say yes because I haven’t had any bad experiences from them overall. However, there are people who have had bad experiences but that’s just the case with any other platform.
